Master Production Schedule

Overview

The Master Production Schedule (MPS) is the foundation of your production planning process. It defines what products will be produced, in what quantities, and when.

MPS Interface Screenshot

Creating a Master Schedule

  1. Navigate to Planning > Master Production Schedule
  2. Click New Schedule
  3. Enter schedule parameters:
    • Planning horizon
    • Time bucket size
    • Product families
  4. Generate initial schedule
  5. Review and adjust as needed

MPS Parameters

ParameterDescriptionDefault Value
Planning HorizonNumber of periods to plan ahead52 weeks
Time BucketSize of planning periods1 week
Safety StockBuffer inventory percentage10%
Lot SizeProduction batch sizeEconomic Order Quantity

Schedule Maintenance

Schedule Maintenance Interface

Regular maintenance of the MPS includes:

  • Updating demand forecasts
  • Adjusting production quantities
  • Managing schedule changes
  • Monitoring schedule performance

Material Requirements Planning

MRP Overview

Material Requirements Planning (MRP) calculates the materials needed to execute the Master Production Schedule.

MRP Flow Diagram

MRP Inputs

  • Master Production Schedule
  • Bill of Materials (BOM)
  • Inventory Records
  • Lead Times
  • Safety Stock Requirements

MRP Process

  1. Gross Requirements Calculation
  2. Net Requirements Calculation
  3. Lot Sizing
  4. Time Phasing
  5. Action Message Generation

Running MRP

MRP Execution Interface

To execute MRP:

  1. Go to Planning > MRP
  2. Select planning parameters
  3. Click Run MRP
  4. Review results and action messages
  5. Implement recommended actions

Capacity Planning

Capacity Requirements Planning (CRP)

CRP ensures that production schedules are feasible given available capacity.
